“Theology of the Gospel”

“Good news isn’t good news without understanding the bad news. We can only see the beauty of the good news to the level that we understand how bad the bad news is.”

John Dickson, Ph.D.: “Almost by definition, Christians know the gospel … Having said that, ‘gospel’ is one of those words that is so basic, so fundamental to Christian life that it can be taken for granted. Like the word ‘love’ in popular music, ‘gospel’ can mean everything and nothing at the same time.”

Union with Christ: Whatever is true about Christ is true about you.. Christ’s past is your past and Christ’s future is your future. You become one with Christ.

Jesus Christ to God the Father, John 17:22 (KJV): “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.”

The gospel is “dynamic” not “static” for it comes in power not just words. It is nothing less than the power of God! The gospel transforms our life and our ministry.

“… the gospel which has come to you … is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth.” Col. 1:5,6. Colossians 3:16 literally says that—the gospel (the ‘word of Christ’) must ‘dwell in you richly.’ This means you must have your inner being and character shaped by the gospel. Everything you do must be ‘in line with the truth of the gospel’ (Gal. 2:14).

So, you are both renewal object and renewal agent.

The gospel does not and should not stop with you…

Gospel > Personal Sanctification
The gospel is bigger than personal sanctification.
It brings comfort to the hopeless.

Questions:
Efesus 2:1-10
1. How do you feel when you realise that you were once dead, enslave, and under God’s wrath?

2. How do you feel when you learned that He made you alive, raised and seat you with Christ, dan showed you immeasurable riches of kindness?
3. If the Gospel is God’s dynamic power, where do you think God leads you to go powerfully in your life direction?
4. The Gospel brings comfort to the hopeless, weak, abandoned, broken. Whom do you think you can reach to and show God’s love and warmth?
