Ibrani ‘eben ‘ezer, ‘batu penolong’

1. 1 Samuel 4:1 “Samuel revealed the word of the Lord to all Israel. Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines. They camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped at Aphek.”

Tempat di mana Israel dua kali dikalahkan oleh orang Filistin di dekat Afek di sebelah utara Saron. Anak-anak Eli terbunuh, tabut perjanjian dibawa (1 Sam 4:1-22), dan awal dari kurun waktu orang Filistin menjadi ‘tuan penguasa’ atas Israel, yg berjalan sampai masa kejayaan nasional muncul kembali pada zaman kerajaan Israel.

2. 1 Samuel 7:12

“Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Up to here the Lord has helped us.” NET‬‬

Nama batu yg didirikan oleh Samuel antara Mizpa dan Yesana beberapa tahun sesudah suatu pertempuran, guna memperingati kemenangannya melawan orang Filistin (1 Sam 7:12). Baru itu diberi nama yg sama dengan nama tempat Israel kalah dahulu untuk memberi kesan bahwa sekarang kekalahan itu sudah berbalik dan TUHAN saja sumber pertolongan, kelepasan dan kemenangan bagi orang Israel.

Dalam kotbah, diberikan 3 prinsip dari nats dibahas.

“Samuel said to all the people of Israel, “If you are really turning to the Lord with all your hearts, remove from among you the foreign gods and the images of Ashtoreth. Give your hearts to the Lord and serve only him. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.””

(1) Pertobatan adalah jalan pemulihan/ Restorasi. Repentance is away to a restoration. Bertobat dari kesalahan atau dosa kita dan berbalik pada Tuhan.

Kita cendrung sama seperti orang Israel melakukan kegiatan rohani dan minta tolong pada Tuhan Yesus waktu ada masalah TETAPI kita tidak evaluasi kehidupan kita yang tidak menghargai kehadiran Tuhan / God’s present atau memuliakan Tuhan dalam kehidupan ini.

Belajar dari orang Israel, Mengapa Tuhan tidak berkenan pada situasi seperti itu?

Apakah kita bisa berbalik pada Tuhan tanpa pertobatan? Why?

(2). Pertolongan hanya dari Tuhan saja. The Lord, our God is the only our help in the midst of our problem/ our crisis.

Jaman waktu itu, allah dikotakkan dalam penyembahan. Ada allah atau berhala untuk kesuburan, untuk kesuksesan, untuk kesehatan, untuk kemenangan perang, untuk keamanan, untuk kekayaan dan seterusnya/ etc. kita juga sama seperti penyembahan berhala.

Ada idols Pleasure, Person/Family, Success/ Money, Appearance, Acceptance, Power, Controlling, or Self Depended dalam kehidupan.

Apa berhala atau idol itu?

What is (are) your idol ( idols) that you struggle now?

(3) Return to Jesus whatever you are. Jesus always accepts who you are. He died for you as the lamb of God. His grace is more than enough for us.

After Samuel gave a burnt offering, God helped Israel miraculously. God’s grace for Israel is more than enough. After 20 years, God forgave them and He turned defeated to Victory. Ebenezer— with God, the defeated place turning the victory place, the stone of help. *And remember this truth: the victory, the delivery, the healing after ( through) the sacrifice of the lamb—- Jesus Christ, the lamb of God. Forgiven after that a delivery/ a help. Renew of our relationship with God through Jesus Christ after that God works in our life.

“So Samuel took a nursing lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Samuel cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him. As Samuel was offering burnt offerings, the Philistines approached to do battle with Israel. But on that day the Lord thundered loudly against the Philistines. He caused them to panic, and they were defeated by Israel.”

Bagaimana dengan Kecendrungan kita: (1) kita fokus Minta Tuhan bekerja atau pertolongan Tuhan waktu kita hadapi masalah tanpa pedulikan atau tidak memperhatikan hubungan dengan Tuhan ATAU (2) kita fokus Evaluasi diri atau memperhatikan hubungan dengan Tuhan dahulu, baru kemudian minta Tuhan bekerja. Please share your tendency?

Bagaimana kita membuat respon yang benar ( not take for granted ) pada grace of God/ kasih karunia Allah dalam Yesus Kristus?
